Are You Investing in Your Wellbeing?
The Honest Truth About Stress, Business, and Why You Need Systems to Survive and Scale
An honest truth most people don’t say out loud is this:
Building a business without systems will not only cost you money. It will cost you your peace.
And if you’re not careful… your health also. We live in a culture that glorifies hustle, celebrates burnout, and labels stress as a badge of honor. But the reality is this:
Not all stress is bad…but unmanaged stress is dangerous.
Not All Stress Is Bad But Chronic Stress Will Break You
Before we go deeper, let’s clarify something important. Stress itself is not the enemy. There is a type of stress that is actually beneficial. It’s called acute stress.
For example, let’s say you need to make an important call. Your heart starts racing and you feel the pressure. But you act quickly. Then the call goes well. And as a result, you feel relief, excitement, and even confidence.
In that moment, the stress added more than it took away. Right? So the real problem isn’t stress itself. It’s chronic stress. The kind that lingers, builds, and compounds over time.
The kind that doesn’t resolve and that sits in your body.
Scripture reminds us in 3 John 1:2:
“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”
God cares about your success, but not at the expense of your health.
Stress Grows When You Avoid What Needs to Be Addressed
One of the biggest mistakes people make is ignoring the source of their stress. Let’s say your income drops unexpectedly. At first, it’s a small concern. But if you ignore it, avoid it and delay addressing it…
That small issue becomes overwhelming. Stress grows when problems are left unattended. And here’s the key:
You don’t eliminate stress by solving everything immediately. You eliminate stress by moving toward a solution. Progress reduces pressure.
A Simple System for Managing Stress
If you want to reduce stress in your life and business, you don’t need something complicated. You need a system.
So here’s a simple framework:
- Identify the source
- Identify the solution (what would make this better?)
- Break the solution into small, actionable steps
- Take the steps
- Track your progress
- Adjust when necessary
That’s it. You don’t need perfection, just movement.
As long as you are progressing, stress loses its power over you. . I share more about the impacts of stress in this article here.
The Truth About Starting a Business (That Social Media Won’t Tell You)
Let’s talk about entrepreneurship. Because many people enter business with unrealistic expectations.
Honestly, starting a business is not glamorous.
It is not easy. It is not always fun. And it is definitely not stress-free.
Most people don’t start a business because deep down, they understand the weight of it. Because when you start a business, sincerely, there is no guaranteed paycheck, no safety net and there is no one coming to save you. You are simply responsible for everything.
Entrepreneurship Without Systems Leads to Burnout
Here’s where many entrepreneurs go wrong: they build businesses that depend entirely on them.
If you don’t show up, nothing moves. If you don’t work, nothing grows. If you don’t push, everything stalls.
That’s not a business. That’s a system of pressure. And that kind of pressure is unsustainable.
If your business can’t run without you, it’s not scalable yet.
This is why being part of a system or even building one is not optional. It is necessary.
Why Systems Are the Key to Your Wellbeing
Stress is not just emotional. It is structural. When everything depends on you, stress compounds.
When there are no systems, no delegation, and no support, your nervous system never gets a break.
And the data reflects this reality:
- 76% of small business owners report medium to high stress
- Only 1 in 4 feel they can take time off
- Many don’t have a team to rely on
- Founders take fewer days off than the average worker
This is not just a resilience problem, but a capacity problem as well.
God Never Designed You to Carry Everything Alone
From a biblical perspective, systems and structure are not just practical, they are spiritual.
In Exodus 18, Moses was trying to lead alone.
And his father-in-law, Jethro, told him something powerful:
“What you are doing is not good… You will surely wear yourself out.” (Exodus 18:17-18)
The solution?
Delegation. Structure. Systems.
Even God’s chosen leader was not meant to carry everything alone. So how do you reduce stress as an entrepreneur?
How to Reduce Stress as an Entrepreneur
If you are serious about protecting your wellbeing while building your business, here are three shifts you must make:
1. Delegate Consistently
If you are still doing repetitive tasks, you are carrying unnecessary weight. Free yourself to focus on strategy, growth, and vision.
2. Normalize Rest
Rest is not optional. It is a discipline. Schedule it, protect it, and honor it.
3. Build Systems That Support You
Wellbeing is not just about intention but it is also about structure.
You need systems that reduce decision fatigue, automate processes, and create space.
You Don’t Fix Stress by Doing More
This is where many people get it wrong. They try to outwork stress. But that only makes it worse.
You don’t fix stress by pushing harder.
You fix it by removing what shouldn’t be yours.
That’s the power of systems.
Passive Income and Systems: A Smarter Way to Build
One of the most powerful ways to reduce stress is to build income streams that do not rely entirely on your time. This doesn’t mean you don’t work. It means you work strategically.
Yes, some passive income models require investment: time, money, or both.
But the goal is simple:
Build something once. Structure it well. Let it continue producing.
This is how you create freedom.
Final Reflection: Your Business Should Not Cost You Your Life
Your business should be a blessing. Not a burden. Your ambition should build you, not break you. And your success should include your wellbeing, not sacrifice it.

PLEASE NOTE: Despite what some passive income proponents would have you believe, you generally do have to spend some money to make money. But there’s no rule that says you have to spend a fortune. And while there are several ways to generate passive income with a sizable investment (such as dividend investing and acquiring music royalties), not every passive income side business demands that. There are, in fact, several methods to boost your earnings without a major financial commitment. And while the upfront time investment may be significant, it can generate income for years to come.
